Now that they have defined their relationship it is time to end this story. I believe stories that go on for chapter after chapter eventually get repetitive or stray too far from their original theme. This epilogue looks forward to the eventual conclusion of their relationship. A Visit to the Hospital Epilogue "Love Conquers All" It has been twenty-five years since we met Chris Gates and Lance Winthrop. So much has happened in the passing years but so little has changed. Chris and Lance figured out that their relationship was true love and not just a physical attraction or a youthful exploration. A love that had grown stronger with each passing year. After the success of the skateboard park project Lance and Chris spent the next few years in the spotlight of local development. As much as they wanted to shy away from urban renewal and concentrate on the charitable foundation's aims, they had to divide their time between the two. The mayor established a new Urban Neighborhood Commission and named Lance and Chris as co-chairman. They immediately recruited Preston and Brad, as well as numerous prominent developers and community activists. Their efforts were making positive changes to the city landscape. The two continued their Thanksgiving tradition of spending it on the tropical island. Christmas they would alternate between traveling to Uncle Walter's house and having him and Aunt Ruth come East. After Walter's passing, Ruth moved back to California where she still had family. Chris and Lance traveled out there a few times before she passed. Preston graduated high school and went off to an Ivy League university to get a degree in Business. Lance graduated a few years later and went to the same university, studying economics with a minor in charitable fund management. Chris carried the weight of both organizations as well as the mayor's commission while Lance was away at school. He was so busy he didn't have time to miss Lance while he was away . . . NOT! But he toughed it out knowing that Lance would be back. And they had school vacations and the summer to be together. Chris made sure not to make any plans for school breaks so he and Lance could make up for lost time, spending as much as the time as possible naked and in each other's arms and in each other. Preston met a girl while in school and ended up bringing her home and marrying her. He went to work in his father's business, with the intent he would take over the business when his father retired. Brad and Paul had stayed together all through high school but felt it was time to move on when Brad went off to college. Lance graduated and bahçelievler escort (http://www.bayanmap.com/k/ankara-escort/bahcelievler-escort) came back home to get back to running his foundation now he was old enough to take control. But he still worked hand in hand with Chris taking advantage of his experience. Chris would seek Lance's council on managing the Gates Foundation with his new found knowledge from college. Brad graduated with high honors and came home to take his place beside Preston in the family business. It wasn't long before Brad's attention to detail was making him the rising star in the company. Mr. Phillips took note of this and gave Brad more responsibility in making decisions and running the business. Far from being jealous, Preston was proud of his younger brother, recognized his talents and supported him in any way he could. Preston was also spending more time at Lance's house learning about the foundation business and becoming closer to Lance in ways neither one of them had intended or completely realized yet. Mr Phillips was nearing retirement and had a decision to make about the company. He called Preston into his study one evening. "Preston, I'm not getting any younger and its about time I think about retiring and spending some quality time with your mother while we both can. In order to do this I have to make a decision on who to hand over the reins of the company to, you or Brad." "Dad, I've been dreading this talk. I'm the older brother and I know its tradition that it's my responsibility to take over the business. I don't want to disappoint you but I don't think I'm the best man for the job. We've both seen what great things Brad has done in growing the business and keeping it on the forefront of emerging technology. I've been thinking about this for a few years now and I think Brad would be the better choice to be named president, leaving me to support him as vice president." "Preston, you could never disappoint me no matter what you do. And you have just made me so proud of you. You're thinking about your brother and the good of the company, not some old fashioned notion that the oldest has to be in charge. I'm sure you'd do a good job at the helm but I agree with you that Brad would be the best man for the job." They both hugged and shed a tear. Mr. Phillips called Brad into the study. "Dad and Preston, this looks serious. Am I getting fired?" Brad asked half jokingly. "Actually you are," Mr. Phillips started as Brad's chin dropped. "You're bring fired as the boss's son. And you're being hired as the new President of the company." "Whoa, wait a minute, that's Preston's job, not mine. Vice President maybe but not the head man." Brad protested. "Ok then, Dad. As Brad's wished. I'm going to be president," winking at his father. "And my first official action is to resign and name my vice president to take my place." "Well done, Preston. You've made a wise decision that will serve the company well." They both laughed, as Brad stood there dumbfounded. They explained their reasoning and Brad graciously accepted. "Brad, you know I will support you in any way I can, but in truth I'd like to spend time with Lance and get more involved in the charitable work. Not full time yet, but a few days a week." "Fine by me, that will keep you out of my hair so I can do my thing," laughing and grinning. Mr. Phillips was so proud of both of his boys. He broke open a bottle of champagne and called his wife in to help them all celebrate. Brad had meet a gay guy at college and the two of them fell for each other right from the start. When Brad graduated he brought Markus home with him to meet the family. Markus had majored bakırköy escort (http://www.bayanmap.com/k/istanbul-escort/avrupa-yakasi-escort/bakirkoy-escort) in early childhood development and was looking to go into teaching in an elementary school. He applied to several schools but as much as times had changed, attitudes in the education field had not. He was not hired anywhere because he was gay. Old school mentality prevailed that a gay man who wanted to work with young children must be a pedophile. Nothing could be further from the truth with Markus. Chris was going to sell his house now that he and Lance were a couple. But true to form, Lance convinced him to keep it and make it a temporary shelter for homeless youth and youth at risk. Markus could manage the program and help council the children who ended up there. Lance used his connections with the mayor to help clear the way for Markus. The Gates Foundation would fund the running of the house and the staff. A win/win for everyone. One of the boys who was sent to the house was a homeless boy, angry at the world and wanted nothing to do with anyone. "So Pete, what can we do to make your stay here comfortable?" Markus asked the boy. "You can leave me the fuck alone. My parents threw me out and if they didn't want anything to do with me, why would you. The sooner I get out of here, the better." "I sorry you parents abandoned you but you won't be leaving here until we find a suitable foster home for you. I know you've been placed several times but have run away each time." "I'm not going to fit anywhere so I don't even try. No one wants me so I just leave." "No, I'm sure we can find the right fit for you." Markus assured him. It turns out that Pete was gay. His father threw him out when he found out and forbid him to ever return. Shortly after, his father and mother moved to a different city so they couldn't be forced to take him back. Markus talked with him and explained he was gay as well. Long story short, Pete ended up moving in with Markus and Brad as foster parents. Over the years the two of them fostered upwards of 20 young boys, some gay, some straight, but all in need of a loving and accepting home. Brad had bought his parent's house when they retired and moved south. They had plenty of room and filled it with cast out children. Preston and his wife were not getting along very well. She was mad he hadn't accepted the presidency of the company. She also wasn't happy with his increasing involvement in charitable work. When she called him out of it he explained his charitable work began with marrying her. Her whole point of view on life was money, image and power. After ten years of an uneasy marriage they filed for divorce. She got their house in the settlement so Preston was homeless. But not for long. Brad offered Preston his old room, which he accepted for the short term. Then Lance convinced him to move in with he and Chris. It was a perfect fit. Preston and Lance could spend more time together on the foundation and Lance had someone his own age to connect with. Chris saw the growing affection developing between them. It gave him comfort to know that Lance would have someone after old age caught up with Chris. Lance was still true to Chris and there was nothing sexual between Preston and Lance, just the beginning of a compassionate, if unconsummated relationship. Life was moving along nicely for everyone. Then the hammer fell. Chris went in for his annual checkup and it was discovered his heart was weakening. He had a pacemaker installed to help but it was not enough. His doctor told him to get his affairs in order, having only six months, possibly a year to live. They balgat escort (http://www.bayanmap.com/k/ankara-escort/balgat-escort) tried to convince him to consider a transplant but he felt at his age, pushing seventy, he had lived a full life and ready to make his peace with his maker. He didn't want to take a heart that might go to a younger person with more reason to extend their life. Reluctantly, Lance agreed. They both knew that Chris would be the first one to die in their August/December relationship but it didn't make it any easier. In putting his affairs in order, Chris gathered Lance and Preston together to discuss their future. Chris wanted Lance's input on naming Preston as the primary trustee of the Gates Foundation and giving him Chris's seat on the board. Preston was honored to be considered. He would put his knowledge that he had gained from working with Lance to good use. "Now that you're going to be taking over and being the new me, I want one more thing. I know you and Lance have grown very close and have feeling for one another. Not just as friends, but much more than that. I promised Lance years ago that I would never leave him alone. My situation has changed and I can no longer keep that promise but you can Preston. I want you to be by Lance's side from now on and take my place as his partner in life and his lover. My medications made it impossible for me to satisfy Lance but you are still virile and can bring him the pleasure he deserves." "I couldn't possible take your place, Chris. You and Lance have something special that no one can replace." "Chris, I know you're health is failing but I'm not going to leave you alone, not like this," Lance protested. "Lance, you're not leaving me alone, just moving across the hall to be with Preston. If I know the two of you are together it will be bring peace of mind to a dying old man." "Shut up!! Don't talk like that," Lance yelled out. "We all know the truth, Lance. It is the way I want it to be, please honor my wishes. I've been very fortunate to have two true loves in my life. Most people only get one, if that. My wife was my life, my everything, until she passed. I never thought I find such a love like that again. Then you came into my life and again I was blessed. Now its time for you to find love a second time, with Preston. " Lance fell on the bed next to Chris and hugged him tight, tears rolling down both their faces. That night Lance came into Chris's bed but was rebuked. "Please, Lance, go across the hall and be with Preston in his bed." Lance slowly left the room and went across the hall. Chris closed his eyes to sleep but felt the covers being turned back. Lance slid in beside Chris despite his protest. Then he felt the covers being turned back on the other side of the bed as Preston slid in on the other side of Chris. "You said I had to share a bed with Preston but you didn't say we couldn't both share it with you. We're not leaving you alone, no matter how much you argue." Chris hugged them both and drifted off to sleep. This was the routine for the next few months. Lance had been through this with his mother and his grandfather. He could see Chris's condition slowly deteriorating. Finally one night Chris asked that Lance and Preston sleep in the room across the hall and leave him to sleep alone. "Preston, you go across the hall, I'm staying here with Chris." Lance declared. "Lance, you should go as well." "No, you know I won't leave you alone, not tonight, not ever." Lance had a good idea that this would be Chris's last night. Sometime during the night Lance was awoken by Chris taking his hand and squeezing it tight. Then Chris's grip went limp. Chris has passed peacefully, sharing the bed of his second true love. Lance gave Chris one last hug, crossed his arms across his chest and silently went across the hall to be with Preston.
